What to expect
Our choice of three bachelor’s courses in gaming and creative technologies are all about training the future innovators and games-makers. Each course focuses on a different aspect of the industry:
- BA (Hons) Games Art and Technology gives students in-depth knowledge of the art development process, exploring aspects such as environment and character design alongside technical art skills.
- BA (Hons) Games Design and Development builds students’ understanding of players motivations and in-game interactions, with focus on structure and narrative.
- BSc (Hons) Games Technology focuses on the technical skills that power gameplay including programming, technical design and prototyping games mechanics.
During the first year of each of our courses, you will develop the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for your games industry specialism. They’ll give you a strong foundation of theoretical understanding and practical skills that you’ll use throughout your studies and into your professional career.
Then, from your second year, you’ll continually apply and practise all you’ve learned in your first year. With a “play first” teaching-style at the core of each course, you’ll learn by experimenting, iterating and exploring, all while developing a skillset that’ll make you stand out.
As part of our creative community, you’ll also have opportunities to collaborate with students from our music, filmmaking and acting degrees, allowing you to apply your skills in new and unique ways.
Faculty
Dr. Enrique Perez is a game developer, researcher, artist, ghostwriter and consultant with over fifteen years’ experience in games design and gamification.
As Head of School: Creative Technology at BIMM University Berlin, Enrique’s priority is to make students, lecturers and staff happy and successful by ensuring a creative, inclusive, safe and opportunity-rich environment for them to thrive and have a successful career.

Facilities
As a student from our Creative Technologies faculty, you’ll have access to the same software and hardware the industry uses today.
You’ll work with games engines like Unity and Unreal and experiment in programmes like Maya, ZBrush and Substance – all on specialist gaming PCs.
Lecturers
You’ll learn from professionals that work in the gaming industry today. Experts of the sector, they have up-to-the-minute knowledge of trends and developments within the industry, putting you in the best position to succeed once you graduate.
With their wealth of expertise and a vast network of connections within the international gaming industry, they’ll give you the skills, knowledge and mindset demanded by the industry globally.
Your lecturers
Giorgio Chiappa (he/him/his) is a Berlin-based researcher and educator whose work explores the dynamic intersection of narratology, video games, and urbanism. He holds a degree in Foreign Languages and Literature with a focus on German and English from the University of Milan and has recently completed a Ph.D. in Theatre Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. Giorgio's academic trajectory is strongly interdisciplinary, bridging literary studies, theatre studies, and game studies, giving him a unique perspective on the narratives and mechanics of digital experiences.
After completing her bachelor's degree in Computer Science at TU Berlin, Kerstin decided to pursue her original passion for becoming a Game Designer by enrolling at HTW Berlin in the relevant field of study.
Nathalie Lawhead is a game designer, and experimental software developer, who's work invokes the iconography of early web design and computing.
Awu (Yuhua Li) is an artist, video game developer, film director, and theatre producer. She expanded the boundary between video games and theater, to combine them into an interesting form. She created the interactive video game theater piece Virtual Collision, and perform the piece with a 4D Sound System in Muffathalle, Munich. The 4D Sound System developed by Ableton, the system provides an immersive audio playback environment.
Since stepping into the gaming industry in 2018, Sebastian Gsänger has developed a well-rounded expertise that spans the full spectrum of game development.
Mischa Wasmuth is a Full Stack Developer with over a decade of experience in game development and interactive media. He holds a Master's degree in Media Informatics from BHT Berlin, specializing in game programming and design, with research focused on AI in multiplayer games and visualization technologies. Known for pushing interactive tech boundaries, Mischa has led award-winning VR projects like "HUXLEY" VR Escape Rooms and directed projects in VR spatial prototyping and large-scale interactive installations for clients such as O2 and umdasch Store Makers. Skilled in Unity3D, Unreal Engine, and multiple languages, he combines technical expertise with an international outlook and interests in martial arts, bouldering, and classical piano, enriching his approach to technology and game development.
Masterclasses
Our masterclasses put you in the room with the game industry’s most exciting leaders and innovators.
Covering topics such as motion capture, games marketing and AI, our masterclass guests will give you insights that build and expand on what you learn in the classroom.
Projects
The creative industries are built on collaboration. As a student on one of our Creative Technologies courses, you’ll get to work with students from across music, filmmaking and acting – and build your creative network during the process.
Whether you’re creating a virtual sci-fi setting for a music video, having actors voice your characters, or creating a video game inspired by a filmmaker’s short film, there are endless possibilities to work across the creative disciplines.
